Today Google published another list of search improvements. Here’s a list of some of the improvements that can affect your site’s ranking or your search results:

Related query results:

Sometimes Google fetches results for queries that are similar to the actual search you type. This refinement makes it less likely that these similar results will rank highly if the original query had a rare word that was dropped in the alternate query. For example, if you are searching for ‘Argyle pink diamond’, you might not be as interested in a page that only mentions ‘pink diamond,’ and so sites containing just ‘pink diamond’ will not rank as highly as sites containing the full ‘Argyle pink diamond.’

What can we glean from this? When writing your content, be as descriptive as possible, using as many specific keywords as you can. It can definately make a difference.

New “parked domain” classifier:

This is a new algorithm Google has for automatically detecting parked domains. Parked domains are placeholder sites that are often filled with ads and are generally of little use on the web. Therefore, in most cases, Google prefers not to use them.

Bottom line? It’s nearly impossible to rank with Google without quality content on your site.

Fresher and more complete blog search results:

Google says it will deliver fresher and more comprehensive blog search results.

If you write a blog, make it your aim to not only post often, but to post quality articles on fresh topics.

Original content:

Google is now able to make better predictions about which of two similar web pages is the original one.

Google has warned against duplicate content before by stressing the importance of unique content. Although not specifically mentioned, this is likely targeting scraper sites – spam websites that copy all of its content from other websites.

Image result freshness:

Google changed how it determines image freshness for news queries, helping to find the freshest images more often.

Thank goodness for this one – how irritating is it to scroll through old and unrelated images?! Hope it works as planned!

Google’s latest web indexing update seeks out the freshest content on the internet. It is now more important than ever to keep your site current and fresh.

Google is constantly refining it search engine algorithm to ensure its search results are the most relevant to what the user is searching for. One important component of a relative search is the date. Even if not specified in a search, most people want search results that are relevant and recent. For example, if you were to search for ‘New Year’s parade’ you likely want information about upcoming 2012 New Year’s parades, not last year’s.

Last month (November 2011), Google made a significant improvement to their ranking algorithm that better determines when to give you more up-to-date relevant results for varying degrees of freshness:

Recent events or hot topics

For recent events or hot topics that begin trending on the web, you want to find the latest information immediately. Now when you search for current events like ‘occupy Wall Street protest’, you’ll see more high-quality pages that might only be minutes old.

Regularly recurring events

Some events take place on a regularly recurring basis, such as annual conferences or elections. Without specifying with your keywords, it’s implied that you expect to see the most recent event, and not one from 5 years ago. There are also things that recur more frequently, so now when you’re searching for the latest NFL scores, X Factor eliminations, or Dancing With the Stars results, you’ll see the latest information.

Frequent updates

There are also searches for information that changes often, but isn’t really a hot topic or a recurring event. For example, if you’re in the market for a new car and want Buick Enclave reviews, you probably want the most up to date information.

How to Use Google’s Fresh Content Ranking Algorythm to Your Benefit

I know I’ve said it before, but it is now more important than ever to update your site frequently. Google’s recent web indexing update confirms that newer information has more precedence over older information. Websites need to regularly add new content to their site if they don’t want to ‘get lost in the Google shuffle.’

So make it a goal to keep your content fresh. It could be as simple as regularly adding news and recent events, offering new promotions or discounts, or posting tidbits of helpful information. Blogs are also a great way to add fresh content to your website. Social media websites, like Facebook and Twitter, can also be of positive impact. Whatever you decide to do, you will be giving Google a reason to visit your site more often, and THAT is a key to improving your website’s ranking.

Everyone wants their website to rank better with Google. After all, Google is the king of all search engines…

On February 24, 2011, Google changed the formula it uses to generate search results, with a change code named “Panda.” In regards to these changes, Google states:

Our recent update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites, so the key thing for webmasters to do is make sure their sites are the highest quality possible. We looked at a variety of signals to detect low quality sites. Bear in mind that people searching on Google typically don’t want to see shallow or poorly written content, content that’s copied from other websites, or information that are just not that useful. In addition, it’s important for webmasters to know that low quality content on part of a site can impact a site’s ranking as a whole. … Removing low quality pages or moving them to a different domain could help your rankings for the higher quality content.

This part is really important: If part of your site has what Google considers low quality content, the ranking of the rest of the site could suffer from the Panda impact. The good thing is that the recent change will provide better rankings for high quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.

How Does Google Work?

Let’s get a little insight into how Google works: When you enter your search query, Google’s Googlebot (web crawler) takes this query, then analyzes billions of web pages in a fraction of a second to see which pages are relevant to the search request. They then apply more than 200 signals, and their patented PageRank algorithm (which is top secret) to determine which sites will appear in the search results. Of the possibly millions of pages that match the query, Google claims only about 1,000 are displayed, based on their overall importance and query-specific relevance. Click here to view a detailed map of how Google works

Tips to Ensure Your Site Has Quality Content

The ‘Google Gods’ tell us that interesting, compelling, informative content is the #1 factor in website ranking. With that in mind, here are a few things to keep in mind when writing content for your website:

Make sure your text is well written, easy to read, and without spelling or gramatical errors.

Keep your content organized – break your content up into logical chunks, and use headings and lists where appropriate. This will help readers scan your content and find what they want faster.

Create fresh, unique content on a regular basis. Try to offer something different on your site, or a different spin on a popular topic. New content not only brings people back to your site, but it attracts new visitors as well. This can be done on your website, via a blog, etc…

Be sure to offer an appropriate amount of quality content. Little or no content can affect your page ranking, which can affect your entire site’s ranking.

When writing your content, think about words a user might type into Google to find you, your services, or a piece of your content. Remember, there are all kinds of people searching for your content – people who know your industry, and people who don’t – and they will use different terms to find the same thing. To illustrate, someone unfamiliar with the Prosthetic industry’s terms might search for an ‘arificial limb manufacturer’, but someone who knows the field would search for a ‘prosthetist.’ Try to think outside the box. Anticipate these different search terms and use a good mix of them when writing your content.

Google’s Keyword Tool can be helpful in discovering different keyword variations.

If you’ve created your business’ Facebook page as a “Personal Profile” rather than a “Facebook Page”, you’re seriously missing out! Why? Read on….

1. Insights & Analytics
Facebook Pages are equipped with free access to highly useful information about your users’ behavior – their like/share habits, their demographics (such as city, gender, age, etc.), and insight into how these people interacted with your content and which content was most viewed. Large companies pay big bucks for this kind of information, and you won’t get this info with Profiles!

2. Search Engines
Your Facebook Page gets indexed by search engines, whereas your Personal Profile does not. That alone is a huge, as your Facebook Page can be a part of your search engine & internet marketing strategy.

3. Promotions & Competitions
Did you know you can run promotions and competitions to promote your business with a Facebook Page, and not with a Profile Page? While this can be a great tool for marketing your business, you must be careful to follow their promotions guidelines, which were recently revised.

4. Advertise your Page
Ever notice those ads on the right column of your facebook page/profile? You can advertise your Facebook Page, exposing your business to 500 million potential customers.

5. Facebook Profiles are limited to 5,000 friends
On your Personal Facebook Profile you are limited to a maximum of 5,000 friends. A Facebook Page has unlimited ‘likes’. Having a Facebook Profile for your business limits the number of potential followers you will have in the future.

In addition, Facebook says you can’t have a Profile for a business. Per Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, Facebook profiles must represent an individual. Users aren’t permitted to maintain an account under the name of their organization, or use personal accounts to advertise or promote themselves professionally. If your profile is listed under a non-individual name, or is used primarily for professional promotion, Facebook can shut down/remove your account.

If your business account is already well-established on a Profile and you’d like to convert it to a Page, Facebook recently released a tool to do just that – the Facebook Profile to Business Page Migration Tool.

Facebook says, “Be aware that when you convert your profile to a Page, your profile pictures will be transferred, and all of your friends will be automatically added as people who like your Page. No other content will be carried over to your new Page, so be sure to save any important content before beginning your migration. The account associated with the profile you previously maintained will be converted to a business account, which will be the sole admin of your new Page.”

Some who migrated experienced some glitches and issues that Facebook was quick to resolve. The tool was temporarily suspended for a day, but has since been up and running. If you decide to use the migration tool, proceed with caution, and be sure to backup all of your information beforehand (Account Settings > Download Your Information).

The colors you use on your website can greatly affect the mood of your visitors. By understanding the psychology of colors, you can easily improve your web site design, create a memorable brand, and increase your conversion rate.

You only have one chance to make a great first impression and capture the attention of your website visitor. Once you’ve got their attention, what does your site move them to do? Are they moved to explore further or purchase your product? Your choice of colors can be of influence to your site visitors. Here is a very brief summary of the perceptions and emotions colors can convey:

Red is mostly associated with boldness, excitement, strength, power, passion, determination, and courage. Red increases the heart rate and creates a sense of urgency, as often seen in clearance sales.

Orange radiates cheerfulness, warmth, energy, enthusiasm and creativity. Orange creates a call to action: buy or subscribe.

Yellow is a clear attention-grabber and mostly associated with liveliness, happiness, comfort, and energy.

Pink is usually associated with femininity, romance, tenderness, and has also been shown to have a calming effect. Pink is often used to market products to women and young girls.

Purple has traditionally long been associated with power, nobility and wealth. It is also strongly associated with wisdom and spirituality, as well as magic and mystery. Purple is often seen in beauty or anti-aging products.

Blue is one of the most liked colors, especially by men. It is linked with depth and stability, professionalism, security and trust, as often seen with banks and businesses.

Green is the color of nature and everything natural. It is identified with safety and optimism, health, durability and reliability, harmony and freshness. It is a calming and stress relieving color. Green is also associated with wealth, and is the easiest color for the eyes to process.

Brown is a reassuring color of endurance, relaxation and confidence. It can also portray comfort, strength, credibility, and stability.

Gray provokes feelings of conservatism, traditionalism and seriousness, security, reliability, and maturity.

White signifies purity and innocence. Further associations are cleanliness, freshness, newness and simplicity.

Black is, especially in design, an elegant and stylish color which can imply sophistication, power, and strength, or provoke feelings of mystery. It is often used to market luxury products.

You can use the above as a guide when choosing colors for your website, logo, or marketing material. It really boils down to your target audience and what psychological message you want to convey in colors.

2011 is not about flashy sites with showy bells and whistles. The trends for this new year and emerging decade are responsive design, constant connection, and virtual reality.

Any designer can get ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from designing a ‘cool’ website that is easily forgotten. The supreme designer is able to create an environment which charms and captivates the user to the point where he wants to check out the site and does not want to find the ‘Back’ button. Several elements come together to create such an environment: harmonious color scheme, intuitive design, easily accessible information, and fast response.

Additionally, one can never under-estimate the power of simplicity. As Leonardo Da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication” – amazing how this stands true even today!

In 2011, you are no longer at the forgiving discretion of the desktop, or even laptop computer. Now, your design must contend with and be user-friendly with smart phones, netbooks, tablets and the like.

Here are the top 10 trends for 2011:

1. More CSS3 + HTML5
CSS3 and HTML5 have been on the distant horizon of web design for the past couple of years, but now, in 2011, we will see an explosion of it. Designers are finally starting to let go of Flash. Regardless of how you may feel about Flash, it does not play well with some of the hot, new technology available to your current and potential visitors. In 2011, designers will gradually step away from Flash and embrace HTML5. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that CSS3 is available to us in a real way this year. Be mindful of web browser compatibility, however. Until Internet Explorer 9 is available, IE users will not have the full benefit of CSS3 and HTML5 as they are not well supported in current and previous IE versions.

2. Simple Color Schemes
Simplicity. There’s nothing quite as impacting as an honest message on a quiet backdrop. Quiet can be interpreted several different ways. Forget black and white or shades of gray. Think of green, yellow, blue, or even red as your primary color. Limit your palette to two or three colors, however, and work within the shades of each color for variety. It can be truly remarkable what a few colors can do for your message.

3. Mobile Ready
Smartphones, iPads, netbooks – there’s a dizzying amount of mobile products available to the consumer in 2011. This means your web design must be responsive to multiple viewports. Creating a mobile ready website is not simply removing the bells and whistles from your design. One of the most important advances is that you can design a whole site and allow your coding to conform to the user’s viewing medium.

It may be tempting to just create a dedicated mobile site, but that may no longer satisfy your audience. Increasingly, mobile sites include the option to visit the original site. If you do not offer this option or if your original site is not optimized to mobile standards, you are simply not ready for 2011. Forecasters predict that smartphones will outsell personal computers this year. Bulletproof your design to meet this demand.

4. Parallax Scrolling
The hot web design trend for 2011 is creating a sense of depth. The parallax effect uses layers to present the illusion of a 3 dimensional space. It can be accomplished with some simple CSS tricks or the help of jQuery plugins like Spritely. Parallax scrolling can be most effective as a secondary element on your design, as in a header, footer, or background.

5. Designing for Touch Screens, Not Mice
Technology has become much more tactile. This means that instead of navigating your mouse to remotely connect, your destination is literally at your fingertips. Tablets, most smartphones and some desktops use touchscreens. Does your design accommodate fingertip navigation? How much of your design is mouse-oriented? There is no hovering in touchscreen, so hovering effects will not work. Drop down menus are also a no-go in touchscreen design.

Similarly, how will visitors peruse your site? As controversial as it may be for standard web browsing, horizontal scrolling may be more appropriate for touchscreens. Fitting nicely into this niche is a magazine-like layout where visitors virtually flip through your site.

Lastly, consider using liquid layouts as part of your commitment toward responsive design. In 2011, you are no longer dealing with screen resolution size. Visitors can change their viewing orientation from vertical to horizontal. Your design must be flexible to meet any challenge, or you will be a relic of 2010.

6. Depth Perception in Web Design
No, we are not dealing with the aerial ‘I can see your coffee cup and keyboard on your website’ design of two years ago. Depth perception is about creating dimension in your web design, so that parts of your site looks nearer than others. It conjures a faux 3D effect when done masterfully. Although 3D technology has no yet made it to web design, you can still replicate depth in your design with well-placed shadowing and layering.

7. Large Photographic Backgrounds
Large scale backdrops will surge in 2011. These images will be high resolution, and covering the entire site. Large photos are an instant way to grab your audience – they cannot help but to see it and have an opinion about it. The background photo must be content-appropriate – simply having a pretty image in the background without any context will disrupt your user’s experience. Trends point to soft and slightly transparent imagery that does not over shadow your content, but harmonizes with it.

8. QR: Quick Response
If you have noticed those square barcodes popping on business cards, magazines or else where, you may already know that they are a hot trend for 2011. How exactly does it translate into web design? The barcodes are called QR, short for Quick Response. Simply take a photo of the unique barcode with your camera phone. Like magic, your phone will call up the website associated with said barcode. The beautiful thing about QR is that you can use it in a myriad of ways. Feature your QR on your website in order for site visitors to have a shortcut to your mobile site. You can also track your visitors through QR, by placing a special referral code on your URL. When you are leaving comments on sites such as this, use the QR as your avatar.

2011 is all about mobility and it will be smart to take advantage of this new medium. Create your own code here.

9. Thumbnail Design
The ever-enterprising folks at Google have introduced the average user to thumbnail browsing. Gone are the days of clicking through to see the content of a website. These days, you just click on the magnifying glass and hover (assuming you’re not on a touchscreen). Magically before you is a glimpse of what waits on the other side of your click. If your design is Flash-based, that is definitely going to be a problem – the preview will not display those elements of your design.

As the average internet user becomes more surfing-savvy in 2011, expect to see more people navigating by these means. It is just too great of a temptation not to judge a site by its thumbnail.

10. Constant Connection/ Life Stream
Last, but certainly not least, is the focus on constant connection in web design. The internet is, by nature, a sterile environment, and we make it human by sharing our lives in an open forum. Expect to see more intimacy through the form of lifestreaming. Personal blogs and portfolios in 2011 will prominently feature live Twitter feeds (not just a link to the Twitter page). People will let you know where they are at any moment of the day via Foursquare. In fact, expect to see a dedicated lifestream for all of one’s online activity.

2011 will prove to be an exciting year for web design. If your website hasn’t been re-designed in a while, or if your site can benefit from any of the trends above, make 2011 the year to bring your website up to speed!

A recent 2010 poll estimated that 51% of small businesses still don’t have a website. What are small business owners losing by NOT having a website? Customers!

Why does your small business need a website?

1. Most People Don’t Use Phone Books Anymore
Many small business owners need to realize that people aren’t using phone books any more. As a matter of fact, a recent national survey discovered that 81% of people are willing to opt-out of receiving a phone book. If you are like me and don’t use a phone book, you can help save paper and opt-out here: opt out of yellow pages.

2. Many People Won’t Buy Unless You Have a Website
Many people will research various companies online before they make their purchasing decision. They want to see your portfolio of work or the products you offer, read about your company, etc. If your company does not have a website, you are losing out on potential customers and revenue.

3. Image is Everything
Your website says a lot about your company and its image. A company without a website is a company without a face.

4. Your Yelp, Facebook, or Other Social Media or Directory Page is NOT Enough
It’s possible to create a Web presence without a full site thanks to sites like Yelp, Facebook, and other social media sites. However, you don’t have control over any of these. You have no say on how they’ll let you connect with customers, and you can’t completely customize your pages. By relying on *other* sites to house your information, you are severely limiting yourself. Small business owners not only need a website, but they need to have control over it as well. Don’t get me wrong – Facebook and other social media sites can be very helpful, but they should be used in addition to your custom professional website, not instead of.

5. Search Engines Are Skewing Search Queries Towards Local Sites Even When a User Doesn’t Include a Local Modifier
Major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing are now localizing your searches based on your IP address. For example, when you perform a generic Yahoo search like ["florist", "pizza"] you will get the local business shortcut if Yahoo feels you meant to imply local listings. It’s a great feature, as you won’t have to sift through listings halfway across the country. If your company doesn’t have a website, your business is not listed along with the rest of your competition that do have websites.

6. Websites Are More Cost Effective Than Traditional Print Advertising, and Save Paper
Online marketing is less expensive than traditional marketing. No brightly colored postcards and brochures to pay printing costs for, no expensive ads to take out in magazines and newspapers, and no rediculously expensive yellow page ads. Website marketing focuses on free or low cost methods, such as publishing marketing articles, press releases, and blog posts, and generating inbound links to increase your website’s ranking with the search engines. And since search engines are now skewing searches toward local sites, that makes marketing your website to your local area even easier!

Although there is still a place for traditional marketing, many businesses are discovering that website marketing suits their needs much better in today’s virtual world. The majority of consumers start looking for a product online, so if you are pursuing a traditional marketing campaign you may just be throwing money away. In order for marketing to be effective, you have to broadcast where your target market is, and since the majority of consumers are online that’s where the majority of businesses should be, too!

Content is a key factor in organic SEO, and sites that have interesting, well-written, optimized content will fare much better than those that do not. Here are some tips to keep in mind when compiling content for your web pages:

1. Write for people, not search engines

All content and articles should be unique and relevant, and written for people who will be visiting your site. Don’t create unnecessary articles/pages stuffed with keywords (see below) specifically for search engines, hoping to boost your ranking.

2. Don’t stuff keywords into paragraphs. Focus on no more than 3 – 5 keywords per page.

Keyword stuffing is considered to be an unethical search engine optimization (SEO) technique. Keyword stuffing occurs when a web page is saturated with keywords in the meta tags or in content, in hopes of boosting search engine ranking. This is considered spam by search engines, and the website may be penalized or banned.

Instead, focus on having 3 – 5 relevant, well-placed keywords per page. Your readers will thank you, because no one enjoys reading reduntant information (and they won’t – they’ll leave your site)!

3. Headlines and titles should be keyword-rich and to the point.

Web content headlines should be keyword-rich and to the point. Short and sweet, but packing a powerful punch!

4. Use keywords in the introduction and conclusion when possible.

After placing your main keyword in your heading, keywords should be again placed in the first and last paragraphs. By repeating your main keyword phrase in the first paragraph, it lets search bots know that the copy that follows the title is indeed relevant.

5. Practice the inverted pyramid style of writing.

People read quickly on the web, skimming for information or keywords. If a site’s writing is not quick and easy to grasp, it is usually not read in full. Start with a concise but descriptive headline, and continue with the most important points. Use less text than you would for print, in a simple writing style that uses bullets and numbered lists to call out information. Place embedded links in your text to help visitors find more information about a related topic.

6. Use shorter sentences and paragraphs, focusing on one idea per paragraph.

Visitors want to see simple, to-the-point content that answers their questions or supplies the information that they are looking for. Make that information easy to find and read!

7. Utilizing lists and bullet points when possible.

The majority of visitors tend to skim web content. For this reason, lists and bullet points should be used whenever possible, as they are easier and faster to read.

8. Aim for quality over quantity.

When writing content, be sure to focus on the quality of writing rather than the length. Huge paragraphs and long pages of content are a turn-off for many web skimmers, so keeping it short and interesting will make audiences more likely to read your content.

9. Write in simple layman’s terms.

It is important to keep your content writing relatively simple, omitting industry-specific terms and jargon. Remember, you are writing for a worldwide audience that may not understand these terms. Keep your information clear, concise, and easy to understand by all ages or educational backgrounds.

10. It’s not just about marketing.

Ensure that the content is not sales or marketing focused. While the ultimate goal is surely to enhance rankings and increase business, the aim for content writing is to keep the website fresh, informative, and a pleasant read.

Ways to advertise your website for free for greater business exposure

Here are some steps you can take to market your website for FREE, and increase its visibility:

1. List Your URL on Everything You Can:

Maximize your advertising efforts by listing your web site address on everything you do. Print the URL on your company’s letterhead, business cards, shirts or uniforms, as well as company and/or personal vehicles. Be sure your URL is listed on your marketing material as well, including any print advertising, brochures, flyers, phone book or magazine ads, direct mail, or any other advertising you may do.

2. E-mail Signatures:

Ensure that your e-mail signature includes your contact details and your website address.

3. Google Maps/Google Local:

Create an account with Google and use Google Maps or Google Local to ensure your business shows up in the search results on Google.com. When Google incorporates these results on its page, it increases the value of its local search and Maps application.

4. Yahoo! Local Listings:

Despite Google being the reigning search engine, Yahoo! remains a popular option. Sign up on Yahoo! Local and take advantage of all the free exposure your website can get!

5. GetListed:

GetListed is a resource for small business owners to learn more about the way their businesses are listed online. The service is free, and well worth using.

6. Local.com:

Apart from Google and Yahoo!, local.com can help potential customers find you after you have signed up for a free listing.

7. Thumbtack.com:

Thumbtack isn’t like typical local search directories that return business listings with ratings and reviews. Instead, Thumbtack gives you the ability to vet, contact and book service professionals the moment you find them. You can check us out on thumbtack under Web & Logo Design or visit their site here.

8. Yellow Pages:

Ensure that you are listed on the online version of the popular phone directory. A basic listing is free.

9. Craigslist:

One of the most popular sites online, Craigslist allows you to post free classified ads, which would be visible for 45 days.

10. Industry Directories:

Submit your site to industry directories and organizations. No matter what industry your business is in, there are online directories that you can list your site on.

11. Start a Blog:

A web log (a.k.a. blog) is a collection of short articles. Blogs have become extremely popular, and when used regularly, help your website’s search engine ranking. Companies such as WordPress (wordpress.com) or Blogger (www.blogger.com) will host your blog for free. The key here is to blog regularly with useful, information-rich articles on interesting topics.

12. Join Social Networking Sites:

Joining social networking sites, such as Twitter (twitter.com), Facebook (facebook.com), and LinkedIn (linkedin.com), and linking these to your website (and vice versa), increase your website’s exposure. Here is a list of social networking sites.

13. Join a Forum or Online Community:

Just about every topic has a forum or online community site where people discuss it. By contributing to these discussion groups, you can inform your customers, advertise your business, and increase traffic to your website.

14. Reciprocal Links:

Exchange web site links with other sites of similar content. For example, if you run a construction website, ask for link exchanges and affiliations with your suppliers or industry organizations.

15. E-mail Marketing:

E-mail marketing is one of the most powerful and effective marketing tools available to businesses today. Even small businesses are tapping into this incredible resource. Reasons to send out an e-mail newsletter include invitations, e-mail marketing campaign, latest news, press releases, etc.

16. Write and Submit Articles:

There are thousands of article directories online (just google ‘article directory’) and most of the time you just complete a simple sign up and start writing/submitting. Placing your articles on these popular sites can help generate traffic to your website.

17. Make a Video:

Make a video about your company/website and what it offers and post it on tubemogul.com which will upload it to YouTube, MetaCafe video, google video, yahoo video, msn video, myspace video, aol video and more. This will give you 5 times the distribution of your promotional video.

18. StumbleUpon:

StumbleUpon is known as a site that is able to generate huge amounts of traffic for a website. Once your site has been “stumbled” upon, it is entered into the network and it is seen by countless people in that interest group, potentially spreading out to other interest groups into other networks.

19. Social News Websites:

Social news websites, like Digg are made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting, voting, and commenting on links and stories. From small bloggers to large media brands, publishers everywhere are using social news websites to engage with their readers and increase traffic to their content.

20. Social Bookmarking Websites:

Social bookmarking sites, like Delicious, allows you to save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking. These sites have the potential to increase your website traffic.

The key is to find and use every possible opportunity to promote your web site. Performing the free website advertising suggestions above will greatly increase your website’s visibility.
