for Your Business

If you’ve created your business’ Facebook page as a “Personal Profile” rather than a “Facebook Page”, you’re seriously missing out! Why? Read on….

1. Insights & Analytics
Facebook Pages are equipped with free access to highly useful information about your users’ behavior – their like/share habits, their demographics (such as city, gender, age, etc.), and insight into how these people interacted with your content and which content was most viewed. Large companies pay big bucks for this kind of information, and you won’t get this info with Profiles!

2. Search Engines
Your Facebook Page gets indexed by search engines, whereas your Personal Profile does not. That alone is a huge, as your Facebook Page can be a part of your search engine & internet marketing strategy.

3. Promotions & Competitions
Did you know you can run promotions and competitions to promote your business with a Facebook Page, and not with a Profile Page? While this can be a great tool for marketing your business, you must be careful to follow their promotions guidelines, which were recently revised.

4. Advertise your Page
Ever notice those ads on the right column of your facebook page/profile? You can advertise your Facebook Page, exposing your business to 500 million potential customers.

5. Facebook Profiles are limited to 5,000 friends
On your Personal Facebook Profile you are limited to a maximum of 5,000 friends. A Facebook Page has unlimited ‘likes’. Having a Facebook Profile for your business limits the number of potential followers you will have in the future.

In addition, Facebook says you can’t have a Profile for a business. Per Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, Facebook profiles must represent an individual. Users aren’t permitted to maintain an account under the name of their organization, or use personal accounts to advertise or promote themselves professionally. If your profile is listed under a non-individual name, or is used primarily for professional promotion, Facebook can shut down/remove your account.

If your business account is already well-established on a Profile and you’d like to convert it to a Page, Facebook recently released a tool to do just that – the Facebook Profile to Business Page Migration Tool.

Facebook says, “Be aware that when you convert your profile to a Page, your profile pictures will be transferred, and all of your friends will be automatically added as people who like your Page. No other content will be carried over to your new Page, so be sure to save any important content before beginning your migration. The account associated with the profile you previously maintained will be converted to a business account, which will be the sole admin of your new Page.”

Some who migrated experienced some glitches and issues that Facebook was quick to resolve. The tool was temporarily suspended for a day, but has since been up and running. If you decide to use the migration tool, proceed with caution, and be sure to backup all of your information beforehand (Account Settings > Download Your Information).
